The Ziasso Village Water Project
This project will bring clean water and sanitation to the village of Ziasso in Burkina Faso.
The Problem
Ziasso it is marked by extreme poverty and a harsh, dry climate, with drought lasting nine months of the year. The village has one well, but during the dry season, it often runs dry. Even when water is available, it is not clean and poses serious health risks. As a result, women and girls will walk long distances to find water from rivers or shallow wells. These sources are frequently contaminated with bacteria and organic waste, spreading diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery. With no proper toilets in the village, open defecation is common, further polluting water sources and threatening the health of the entire community.
The Project
This W.A.S.H. (water, sanitation, and hygiene) project in Ziasso will address these urgent needs by drilling two boreholes to provide the community with a reliable, year-round source of clean drinking water. In addition, five latrines and handwashing stations will be constructed to improve sanitation and reduce the spread of disease. Families will also receive training in hygiene and sanitation practices, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to protect their health and care for their new infrastructure.
