The Piggery Project
ZACTS School has expanding its farm with a new piggery to enhance food production, support sustainability, and provide students with hands-on agricultural and entrepreneurship training.

The Problem
The ZACTS School for Orphans and Vulnerable Children was established in 2012 by International Needs Zambia and currently provides educational support to more than 1,700 students. Although the school is fortunate to receive government aid for teacher salaries, school fees, and educational resources, it does not fully cover the operational expenses. What’s more, government assistance does not extend to covering the expenses required for providing daily meals, which presents a challenge in ensuring the children are nourished every day.
The Project
Since 2018, ZACTS School has operated a farm on its property to generate income and provide nutritious food for students. This includes vegetable production, poultry, and fish farming. In 2025, ZACTS took the next step by establishing a piggery, and we’re excited to share that the piggery is now fully constructed and operational, with pigs now on site!
The piggery builds on ZACTS’ existing farming initiatives and is designed as a sustainable, income-generating project. It supports the school’s feeding program, reduces reliance on external food purchases, and creates a revenue stream that can be reinvested into education and student care.
How Your Gift Helps!
Although construction is complete, continued support is will ensure the long-term success of the piggery. Ongoing needs include feed, veterinary care, and medicines; farm maintenance and operational costs; expansion of production capacity over time; and continued hands-on training for Grade 8–12 students in agriculture, business, and entrepreneurship.
Your support helps ZACTS operate and grow this project so it can deliver lasting impact, nourishing children today while building financial stability for the school’s future.
