ZACTS Farm Project
ZACTS OVC is creating food supply for the school and income generation for the community through sustainable agriculture.
Zambia has experienced more than a decade of food production decline which has resulted in widespread hunger, especially in rural areas. Perhaps the biggest cause of food insecurity is the HIV/AIDS crisis. It has decimated the farming sector and left many orphans and widows with no means of earning a living.
Our partners have cleared a large plot of land on which cabbages, tomatoes, soya beans, and maize are growing well. They also have a chicken coop and three fish ponds. The majority of food produced from the farm is used to feed the children at the ZACTS OVC School, and some is sold at the market to help offset the school’s operating costs.
“We are so thankful to God for our partners who help us provide free education which is key in dealing with poverty and extreme hunger in Zambia. Our income generating agricultural project will also help to ensure that our students eat a variety of healthful foods.”
Jibusha, Principal at ZACTS School
