Meet Maria, a sponsored student from Kenya. Raised

Meet Maria, a sponsored student from Kenya. Raised by a single mother, it was tough for her family to afford school fees, books, and supplies. But everything changed when Maria received sponsorship. The support not only helped her stay in school but also gave her the opportunity to attend college!

Now, Maria is close to finishing her degree in food science and is looking forward to graduating soon. She’s passionate about improving food quality and safety and hopes to apply her knowledge toward sustainable food practices that benefit both people and the environment.

Alongside her studies, Maria discovered a love for cosmetology and has been developing her skills in that field as well.

Maria deeply believes that without sponsorship, reaching this point in her education would have been nearly impossible. As she prepares for graduation, she is so grateful for her sponsors, who stood by her from primary school all the way to college 📚🎓

"My name is Ratan, and I live in a slum in Dhaka, Bangladesh. My father drives a rickshaw, and my mother works as a housemaid. With nine siblings, it’s hard for my parents to support us all, so we each help out however we can.

I really want to go to school, but we can’t afford it right now. When I found out about the Dhaka Drop-In Centre and how they support kids who aren’t in school, I decided to join. In the mornings, I sell vegetables by the roadside, and in the afternoons, I come to the centre because I love learning. Our teacher makes it fun with rhymes, songs, and pictures to teach us reading and writing.

Even though my mornings are tough, I feel happy and forget my worries when I’m at the centre. Please keep me in your prayers so I can follow my dream of going to school full-time one day!" 📚🌟

Meet Laxmi, one of the newest trainees at the Lydi

Meet Laxmi, one of the newest trainees at the Lydia Vocational Training Centre in Nepal. She is a single mother, and recently left behind an abusive home life.

“It was an incredibly tough time,” Laxmi shares. “But my daughter gave me the strength to keep going and the courage to leave. She deserves a better future, and I’m determined to make that happen.”

Laxmi and her daughter found refuge at a Women’s Shelter, and eventually, Laxmi saved enough to rent a small apartment. To support them, she started selling vegetables at the market, though the job is difficult, requiring her to leave home at 3 a.m. every day.

Determined to find better work and improve her income, Laxmi enrolled in the six-month tailoring program at the Lydia Centre. She dreams of one day owning her own boutique and believes this training will transform her life and give her daughter the opportunities she never had growing up.👩‍👧
