The Ouena Village Water Project
This project will bring clean water to the people of Ouena in Burkina Faso.
The Problem
Ouena is a village in Burkina Faso, home to over 20,000 people. It is characterized by extreme poverty and a dry climate that struggles with severe drought nine months of the year. During the three-month rainy season, most households collect rainwater, but in the dry season, women and girls walk long distances daily to collect water from rivers or wells. These water sources are polluted, spreading diseases like cholera and dysentery. As a result, the community struggles to stay healthy.
The Project
The project will build two boreholes in Ouena, providing the community with a reliable source of clean, safe drinking water. In addition, families will receive training in sanitation and hygiene practices, equipping them with the knowledge to protect their health and prevent waterborne diseases.
