THE LAH VILLAGE WATER PROJECT
This project will provide safe, clean water to the people of Lah in Burkina Faso
The village of Lah is located in the rural community of Kona. The region is characterized by a dry climate that alternates between a 3-month rainy season and a 9-month dry season, resulting in a desert-like landscape. During the rainy season, most households collect water, but in the dry season, women and girls are forced to walk many kilometres to collect water, which is not safe or potable.
This project came about after International Needs Burkina Faso conducted an evangelization campaign. The village leaders were so moved they asked for help with their water needs. This project, which will be jointly overseen by the local pastor and the village chief, will provide clean water for 5,000 families in Lah and the surrounding area. Our partners will be drilling and installing a manual water pump on the church property, which is close to the village and easy to access. International Needs will work with the local leaders to educate residents on how to use the water to improve health and sanitation, and reduce the risk of Typhoid Fever.
