Preventing Teenage Pregnancy

In Kenya

Teenage pregnancy rose by 40% in Kenya during the three-month COVID-19 lockdown, with an estimated 152,000 unintended pregnancies linked directly to the pandemic. These statistics paint a grim future for the girls, who are more likely to experience poverty, domestic violence, and serious pregnancy complications.

In response to these alarming trends, the Real Hope Youth Community Organization built a safe house for children and teens in Kawangware slum. One of their priorities now, as the pandemic continues, is to rescue girls who are at risk of sexual abuse, often at the hands of relatives at home.
