Kibera Good News Clubs
The clubs were established to provide a safe space for vulnerable children living in the Kibera Slum.
More than half a million people live in Nairobi’s Kibera slum. Row after row of frail, dirt-floored shacks line the rank, narrow passageways of Kibera. There are no services here, no running water, no electricity, no garbage collection and no sewage system. Garbage, dirt and human waste fill the shallow trenches. Kibera’s residents face incredible challenges, from widespread unemployment and low wages, to rampant disease such as malaria, cholera and typhoid.
In order to respond to the urgent needs of Kibera’s vulnerable children, International Needs has added a Good News Club in a strategic area where more children can be reached. Good News Clubs offer children from ages 5 to 18 a safe and enriching environment where they can receive nutritious food, healthcare, education, life training, and coping skills. The children are also taught the Word of God and encouraged to reach their full potential.
How Your Gift Helps!
Your gift helps us to identify vulnerable children, particularly those living on the streets struggling with malnutrition and abuse, and provide a venue where we can monitor and assess their needs. You also allow club leaders to work closely with youth on issues affecting them, including HIV/AIDS and substance abuse. They’re providing with counselling and assistance, whether medical, social, or otherwise. Good News Clubs are held every Saturday, with the ultimate goal of sharing the love of Christ with children, in word and practical help. Thanks to some generous donors who pay all our overhead, 100% of your gift will be sent to the Kibera Good News Clubs!
The total cost of the program is $2,200 per month.
