Kamlapur Drop-In Centre
The Kamlapur Drop-In Centre provides children working at the railway station with a safe space to learn, play, and grow.

The Problem
The Kamlapur Railway Station is the largest railway station in Bangladesh and the most important terminal for railway transportation between Dhaka and the rest of the country. The station is used as a living, sleeping, and working place for many of Dhaka’s street children, most of whom were abandoned by their parents who could not facilitate for them. At the station, the children carry baggage for railway passengers, others collect and sell empty plastic bottles for money, and some even turn to pick-pocketing and sex work to pay for the essentials of life.
The Program
Our partners in Bangladesh have opened a new drop-in centre to care for children living and working at the Kamlapur Railway Station. The centre is open 5 days a week, and offers basic education, healthcare, nutritious meals, recreation, life skills training, and psychosocial support for 40 children. Program leaders also conduct awareness raising sessions with families and the community to advocate for the rights of children. The main goal of this program is to reduce the impact child labour has on a child’s well-being and socio-economic status.
How Your Gift Helps!
Your gift will help vulnerable children to feel nurtured and empowered, so they can lift themselves and those around them out of poverty. It will also allow our partners to work closely with families and the community to help them understand child rights and the value of education. There will also be much advocacy work with employers, local entrepreneurs, and government officials to improve enforcement of the child protection laws.
100% Of Your Donation
will be used to improve the lives of children in Bangladesh, thanks to some generous donors who pay all our overhead.
