June 2021: Get Active for Ghana

Get Active for Ghana is a month-long event that will raise funds for the Ghana Group Program. During the month of June, set fundraising and activity goals (biking, running, swimming, or your activity of choice) and enjoy online concerts, guest speakers, and fitness classes as we work together towards the long-term development of vulnerable children in Ghana. Meet Julia Shannon – Youth Ambassador

My name is Julia Shannon, and I’m working towards a university degree in human kinetics.  I’m a competitive cross country skier and former Royal Conservatory pianist.  I enjoy rock climbing, paddling, camping, running, hiking, biking, and just about anything else that gets me outdoors.  I’m very passionate about inclusivity, especially the inclusion of those with special needs.

My journey with International Needs began a few years ago when I attended an event at which our family friends spoke about their experience with International Needs.  They shared about their trip to Ghana to meet their sponsored child and witnessing the incredible work that International Needs is doing.  That evening my family started sponsoring a young girl named Janet, who also lives in Ghana.  I enjoy praying for her and her family, corresponding with her, and I always look forward to receiving updates in the mail.

I’m now very excited to serve as Youth Ambassador for the new Ghana Group Program, which supports vulnerable children – especially those who are more at risk now because of COVID-19. I feel blessed to be a part of such a wonderful organization and truly look forward to seeing how God will call me to serve others in my role.
