Income Generating Vegetables
International Needs is seeking to create income generation and food supply through sustainable agriculture, which will help fund the ZACTS OVC Primary School.
Zambia has experienced more than a decade of food production decline which has resulted in widespread hunger, especially in rural areas. Perhaps the biggest cause of food insecurity is the HIV/AIDS crisis. It has decimated the farming sector and left many orphans and widows with no means of earning a living.
Our Zambian partners have cleared a large plot of land on which cabbages, tomatoes, and maize are growing well. The need is to clear more land in order to have a greater crop. The plants are watered by hand daily from a stream nearby. Purchasing an irrigation pump and the pipes needed will allow an adequate flow of water to the plants and produce three crops per year. Two workers are currently looking after the gardens and could care for more plants.
How Your Gift Helps!
Your gift will help us purchase an irrigation pump, pipes, seeds, fertilizers, and the transportation of goods to the market. This project will also provide salaries for 2 field workers, helping to create jobs, sustainable agriculture, and stimulating the local economy. Most importantly, your gift will help to put an end to hunger in Zambia.
Thanks to some generous donors who pay all our overhead, 100% of your gift will be sent to the ZACTS School for the Income Generating Vegetables Project!
The total cost of the project is $18,000.
“We are so thankful to God for our partners who help us provide free education which is key in dealing with poverty and extreme hunger in Zambia. Our income generating agricultural project will also help to ensure that our students eat a variety of healthful foods.”
