Deworming for Wellness
To reduce infection rates, International Needs will conduct a school-based deworming program in the Volta region.
Soil-transmitted worm infection is one of the most common and neglected tropical diseases affecting impoverished communities. Children are the most susceptible to worm infections which, if untreated, affect children’s health, ability to concentrate in school, and long-term development. The deworming program was canceled in 2020 due to the global pandemic, leaving over six thousand children untreated in several communities in Ghana.
To reduce infection rates, International Needs Ghana has provided bi-annual deworming clinics for the past 15 years in several communities in the Volta Region. To make up for the missed treatments in 2020, International Needs Ghana is launching a school-based deworming program in January, 2021.
